In a hurry? Skip to Section 3 — Result Suppression / Opt-Out to have your results removed from our platform as quickly as possible. To remove the underlying image from the internet you must contact the website hosting it directly — we cannot do this on your behalf.
1. We Do Not Host or Store Images
ProfileFinder is a search and aggregation service — not an image host. We want to be unambiguous about this because it is central to understanding what we can and cannot do in response to any removal request.
Query photos are deleted immediately. When a user uploads a photo to perform a face search, that image is transmitted directly to our facial-recognition provider for query processing and is permanently deleted as soon as the search completes. We do not retain, cache, store, or index user-uploaded photos at any point. No copy of the query photo ever touches our database.
Our Service returns links to publicly available profile pages on third-party platforms (such as social networks, forums, and public directories). We do not copy, cache, reproduce, or re-host those profile images or pages. The images you may see referenced in results are served entirely by the third-party website that originally published them.
Because we do not possess or control the underlying images, we are technically unable to delete them. What we can do is suppress specific results from appearing on our platform going forward, as described in the sections below. To have an image deleted from the internet, you must contact the website that is hosting it directly.
2. Overview of Removal Options
There are three distinct pathways depending on your situation:
- Result Suppression / Opt-Out (Section 3): You want a specific result suppressed on our platform so it no longer appears in searches. This does not remove the underlying content from the internet.
- DMCA Copyright Notice (Section 4): You own the copyright to an image that is being linked to through our Service and wish to file a formal notice under the DMCA. Note that because we do not host images, the appropriate primary target for a hosting takedown is the third-party website displaying the image.
- Privacy-Based Removal (Section 6): Your results raise a safety, harassment, or privacy concern beyond copyright (e.g., NCII, domestic violence, minors).
3. Result Suppression / Opt-Out (Fastest Method)
Any individual who finds their likeness appearing in ProfileFinder search results may request that those results be suppressed on our platform. You do not need to be a copyright owner — we honour privacy-based removal requests independently of intellectual property law.
Important limitation: Suppressing a result on ProfileFinder removes it from our platform only. It does not delete the underlying image or profile from the third-party website that hosts it, nor does it affect results on other search engines. If you need the source removed, you must contact that website directly.
Who can submit a suppression request?
- The individual who appears in the photo or result;
- A legal guardian or authorised representative of that individual;
- An attorney acting on behalf of the individual (with appropriate written authorisation).
What to include in your request
- Your name and contact email address;
- The URL(s) that appeared in our results, or a description sufficient to identify the specific result(s);
- A brief statement confirming you are the person depicted or their authorised representative;
- A good-faith declaration that the request is accurate and not intended to suppress content you are not entitled to remove.
You do not need to provide a government-issued ID for a standard opt-out, though we may request verification in complex or disputed cases to prevent fraudulent suppression of legitimate third-party content.
How to submit
Email: profilefindersupport@gmail.com
Processing time: We aim to process standard suppression requests within 5 business days. Once suppressed, the result will no longer appear in new searches on our platform.
Requests involving minors
Results involving individuals under 18 are treated as high priority. We aim to process these within 48 hours. Include "MINOR — URGENT" in your subject line.
4. DMCA Copyright Notice
ProfileFinder respects intellectual property rights and complies with the Digital Millennium Copyright Act of 1998 ("DMCA"), 17 U.S.C. § 512. However, because we do not host or store images, we are not the appropriate primary respondent for a hosting takedown — the website that is serving the image is. We strongly encourage you to contact that website directly for removal of the source image.
If you nonetheless believe that our Service is facilitating access to content that infringes your copyright — for example, by linking to an infringing page — you may submit a written notice to our Designated Agent. Upon receipt of a complete and valid notice, we will suppress the relevant link from appearing in our search results.
Requirements for a valid DMCA notice
Under 17 U.S.C. § 512(c)(3), your notice must include all of the following:
- Identification of the copyrighted work claimed to be infringed;
- Identification of the specific result or link in our Service that you allege facilitates infringement, with sufficient detail for us to locate it;
- Your contact information — full legal name, mailing address, telephone number, and email address;
- Good-faith belief statement: "I have a good faith belief that the use of the material described above is not authorised by the copyright owner, its agent, or the law";
- Accuracy and authority statement: "I swear, under penalty of perjury, that the information in this notification is accurate and that I am the copyright owner, or am authorised to act on behalf of the owner, of an exclusive right that is allegedly infringed";
- Your physical or electronic signature.
Warning: Submitting a materially false DMCA notice may expose you to liability under 17 U.S.C. § 512(f), including damages, costs, and attorneys' fees. We transmit notices to our legal counsel and take misuse seriously.
Where to send your notice
- Email (preferred): profilefindersupport@gmail.com
- Subject line: "DMCA Notice — [brief description]"
Response time
We will acknowledge valid notices within 2 business days and suppress the identified result from our platform, typically within 10 business days of receiving a complete and valid notice.
5. Counter-Notice Procedure
If a result was suppressed on our platform as a result of a DMCA notice you believe was erroneous or filed in bad faith, you may submit a counter-notice under 17 U.S.C. § 512(g).
Requirements for a valid counter-notice
- Identification of the result that was suppressed and where it appeared in our Service before suppression;
- A statement under penalty of perjury that you have a good-faith belief the result was suppressed due to mistake or misidentification;
- Your full name, address, phone number, and email address;
- Consent to jurisdiction of the Federal District Court for your address (or any judicial district in which ProfileFinder may be found, if you are outside the US);
- Your physical or electronic signature.
Upon receipt of a valid counter-notice, we will forward it to the original complainant. We may restore the suppressed result within 10–14 business days unless the complainant files a court action seeking to restrain restoration.
6. Privacy-Based Removal Requests
We recognise that privacy concerns extend beyond copyright. We give priority consideration to suppression requests in the following circumstances:
- Non-consensual intimate imagery (NCII): We treat this as an emergency and aim to suppress within 24 hours. Email profilefindersupport@gmail.com with "URGENT — NCII" in the subject line;
- Safety and protection concerns: If content in our results poses an imminent risk to your physical safety (e.g., domestic violence, witness protection), contact profilefindersupport@gmail.com immediately;
- Minors: Results involving individuals under 18 are processed with top priority. See Section 3;
- Deceased individuals: Next of kin or estate representatives may submit requests on behalf of deceased persons with appropriate documentation;
- GDPR / UK GDPR right to erasure: EU and UK residents may exercise rights under Article 17 GDPR by contacting profilefindersupport@gmail.com. We will suppress results on our platform in response to valid erasure requests. Note that erasure of the source data requires contacting the originating third-party website.
7. Repeat Infringer Policy
In accordance with 17 U.S.C. § 512(i), ProfileFinder maintains and enforces a policy of terminating accounts associated with repeat copyright infringement. A user may be considered a repeat infringer after three or more valid DMCA notices attributable to their account, or upon evidence of a clear pattern of intellectual property abuse. Determination is made at ProfileFinder's sole discretion.
